i've spent my hours with an alibi
been working out the kinks in its design
i woke up this morning underneath the grayest cloud
afraid that they might figure it all out
maybe some old truth ain't such a bad, bad thing
put weight under the words that i sing
maybe all i need's a pair of pomegranate wings
to prune and clean the mess i've made of things
one day i'll tilt my chin up, pose for a picture or three
might get lucky, might get caught in a breeze
mother nature could you have known
about the outcome of those seeds?
did they make it hard to breathe?
i'm not that clever but i know one thing well
winter gets a bad rep for its spells
but maybe all the monotone makes it possible to tell
the tale of springtime color carousel
maybe i'm just caught up in the order of things
no need to get so bent up on a scratch
maybe all the bruising should be seen as something sweet
there's bread to make and butterflies to catch
one day i'll tilt my chin up, pose for a picture or three
might get lucky, might get caught in a breeze
mother nature could you have known
about the outcome of those seeds?
did they make it hard to breathe?

short hand
03:00
|
|||
smoke will
seep into your body
before you lose sight
of the short hand eroding
the landscape of polished wood
down to the steel interplay
of spokes never resting
the heart of them turning
now what will happen to you then?
will you make amends?
reconcile all the loose ends
you've buried
over and under the decades
hidden in boxes and frames
pieces of your conscience
a secret anthology
will you let them disappear
or will you set them free?
you get restless
by your own hand
long not short
self reprimand
all the hours
stuck suspended
follow dreams
to fruition
will you make amends?
reconcile all the loose ends
you've buried
over and under the decades
hidden in boxes and frames
pieces of your conscience
a secret anthology
will you let them disappear
or will you set them free?

godspeed little rat

godspeed little rat running down the alleyway
fear not for i will be the president someday
and you'll see, you were always warm and safe here with me
i had a dream where i forgot to make mistakes
i woke up in a sweat with a weird headache
could it be a state of grace or blessed insanity?
another house full of fools dreaming bigger than the truth
in their borrowed business meat-man suits
i love them all, and i can't wait to see them fall
and i can't decide what i've found
does this tiny lonely sound find a home or fill a lull
or just take up space in my battered skull?
how many epiphanies does it take to screw my soul?
if you level with the devil he might share the smokes he rolls
golly gee, we're gonna pin a medal on you for being so free
love unexpressed is just nature's plan
these tiny lonely sounds oh have a heart oh how they try
time stands still, goodnight and goodbye

quiet love
03:49
|
|||
winter make my heart abound
with snow dusted melodies of a quiet love
i want to sing aloud
i should have known years ago
that paths, not roads would lead me to where i want to go
hang my heart upon your wisest bough
i promise that i'll listen closer now
hear you most of all even if i fall
into fear again
winter make my worry freeze
give this budding grace a little room to breathe
i want to bring it out
i should have known years ago
that love and trust would be there if i could just let go
winter won't you make the time for me?
to open up and learn how to receive
hang my heart upon your wisest bough
i promise that i'll listen closer now
hear you most of all even if i fall
into fear again

on the road
02:38
|
|||
on the road, you're on the road
last i heard you're in idaho
a hum and a buzz on the radio
i stayed back, chicago skies forebode
will i stay 'til i've grown old?
east to west and back again
i contain this dripping pen
i ask how and you ask when
i'll join you when you're on the road again
well, i guess it all depends
on one hanging bridge left to cross
one hair to unpin
on one little word, little bird
i know deep within
i've come so far from pretending
that i'm not just static and charge
aren't all these walls meant for the breaking?
aren't all ends just a new start?

monsters in love
03:14
|
|||
autumn sunsets were imagined in this hiding life of mine
but you brought me out to see one in real time
and i can't thank you enough for
all the kind words from a sweet heart that revel in what's good
and you brought me out to see it more than anybody could
yet i don't show you enough love
once upon a times always felt like the kind of trouble
that eager hearts bring
and once upon a pale moon there were monsters that hid
under beds that would wake you to scare you
when you were fast asleep
but i held on tightly
i held on wisely
to monsters and love
you brought me here to that happy place you dwell
where monsters have rosy cheeks and stories to tell, now
i'm all mixed up inside about this sweet monstrous loving life
could it be more real?
once upon a times always felt like the kind of trouble
that eager hearts bring
and once upon a time i may have wondered
if eager really was a troublesome thing?
but i held on tightly
i held on wisely
to monsters and love

globetrotter
isn't she a breath of the newest sights and frames of reference?
to each strand of her hair, a corresponding longitude
when she speaks from a seasoned throat
she becomes more aware of what she doesn't know
and the stones line up with a force and unified point of view
they call it "true"
the wind and the rain went straight to their brains
and the fear took away the hollowness of blame
all hope pushed aside, they owed it to their minds
to listen to the bird's instinctive lullaby:
"head towards the sun
some ships may follow and some may bear their guns
keep love for everyone
let it speak for the work you've done
the sailors and the stones will go forth with what they know
and the lines they form shall bear no comment or review
on what it means to you"
globetrotter
close your burning eyes and the winds will take a new direction
to each strand of your hair, a corresponding gratitude
no tempest could ever deceive you
from love that wants to receive you
let each destination build upon that old bird's tune
it carries you through
