i've spent my hours with an alibi
been working out the kinks in its design
i woke up this morning underneath the grayest cloud
afraid that they might figure it all out

maybe some old truth ain't such a bad, bad thing
put weight under the words that i sing
maybe all i need's a pair of pomegranate wings
to prune and clean the mess i've made of things

one day i'll tilt my chin up, pose for a picture or three
might get lucky, might get caught in a breeze
mother nature could you have known
about the outcome of those seeds?

did they make it hard to breathe?

i'm not that clever but i know one thing well
winter gets a bad rep for its spells
but maybe all the monotone makes it possible to tell
the tale of springtime color carousel

maybe i'm just caught up in the order of things
no need to get so bent up on a scratch
maybe all the bruising should be seen as something sweet
there's bread to make and butterflies to catch
